The Russian folk singer who inspired the popular ‘Trololo’ Internet meme is in critical condition after suffering a stroke.
Eduard Khil, 77, was in a coma and on a ventilator at a St. Petersburg hospital after being stricken late last week, Russian state news agency RIA-Novosti reported. Sources said the singer has suffered irreversible brain damage.
In 2010, Khil — who was a legend of Soviet stage and film — was introduced to the rest of the world when a clip of him performing a nearly 50-year-old song titled, “I Am So Happy To Finally Be Back Home,” inexplicably became a top-viewed Youtube clip.
The footage showed Khil sporting a curious bowl hairdo, wandering around a stage emitting a joyous stream of syllables in a bouncy baritone. His distinctive trilling earned him the nickname “Mr. Trololo.” The clip became a fast hit and was soon featured on “The Colbert Report,” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

Dog bites drive up insurance payouts; premiums could be next
[via usatoday]
Call me a meany — I don’t like dogs. I don’t like to be around them and I avoid walking in places that allow them (like the beach—although most beaches ban them).

Any time I’m out for a walk and I maneuver to avoid someone’s dog on a leash, I always get the same comment: “Oh don’t worry, he’s/she’s harmless.”
Really?
HERE ARE SOME U.S. STATISTICS ABOUT DOGS THAT SHOULD GET YOUR ATTENTION:
* More people are KILLED by dogs every year than have been killed by sharks in the entire history of the U.S.
* 4.7 MILLION people are bitten by dogs each year and more than half of the victims are children.
* 5,600 U.S. Postal Serivce letter carriers were attacked by dogs last year. Medical expenses from dog attacks cost the Postal Service over $1 million last year.
* The ASPCA predicts HALF OF ALL CHILDREN will be bitten by a dog before age 12. (!!)
* In 2011, homeowner insurance liability companies paid out US$479 MILLION in claims for dog bites. In California (where I live), there were 369 claims and total payouts of $11.3 million. The average cost per claim in the state was $30,000.
* Every week, newspapers report another tragic death by a so-called ‘harmless’ family dog. Last week in Texas, a 3-month-old BABY left alone for only a minute was attacked and KILLED by the family dog that the parents had owned for 7 years and had never shown any previous aggression. In Palo Alto last year, a young husband returned home from work to find his 9-month-pregnant wife had been attacked and KILLED by the family dog.
BEWARE OF DOGS.

First Skyfall Trailer: Watch Daniel Craig on the Hunt as James Bond
[via eonline]
Can’t wait for this. I think Daniel Craig is the best Bond since Sean Connery: tough, macho, ruggedly handsome.

Use it for an advantage!

Hmmm…I’ve always wondered about trees — especially palm trees and how they die. So they finally get so tall they just break.
This tree outside the Howard & Smith flower shop at Olive and 9th streets attained a height of 134 feet before succumbing to a windstorm in 1915
